Jay Lewkowitz: CNHA, FACHCA, LCSW

Jay has been in the field of long term care since 1970. He began his career as the Assistant Director of Program Development in a 900 unit geriatric center. He became a licensed administrator in Illinois in 1973. His first assignment as an administrator was to develop census, hire staff and gain certification for a large, newly constructed skilled nursing facility. He is currently the Executive Director of a 102 unit retirement and 294 bed nursing campus in suburban Chicago.

During the span of his career he has been instrumental in "turn-around" situations, expanding occupancy, reducing staff turn-over, solidifying community relations and establishing quality improvement programs which produce excellent resident care while paying close attention to budgetary constraints. He maintains a highly credible profile with all regulatory agencies.

His experience includes development, construction, financing and start-up operations of several senior housing projects.

He has served as an expert witness in numerous cases of nursing home litigation assisting both plaintiff and defense attorneys. He is certified as an expert witness through the American College of Health Care Administrators. He is also a Fellow of the American College and is a certified nursing home administrator through the same organization.

In addition, Jay holds a Master's degree in Social Work and is licensed in the State of Illinois, and certified by the National Association of Social Workers.

He is also on the national faculty of the Assisted Living Federation of America and conducts numerous, well-received seminars and workshops on both the local and national level. He is a certified professional in utilizing the Myers-Briggs© Type Indicator.

Jay has authored a widely read advice column for senior citizens and is a contributing editor to a publication geared to those who care for the elderly.

He has been very active in community and professional organizations and holds offices in his local United Way. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Life Services Network, a state association representing nursing homes, assisted living, independent housing, and community based services for seniors.
